Day-ahead gas cost € 83.94 per MWh on 15 September. The last time gas was this expensive was on 30 December 2022. Power averaged € 168.61 per MWh in week 37, € 45 more than the week before. In the same week the Dutch government lowered the target for gas storage and the central banks of Europe and the United States raised interest rates. Those four things are connected.

Power for delivery across the whole of 2027 now costs € 117.90 per MWh. At the start of August it was € 101.04. Gas for 2027 went from € 41.96 to € 52.29 over the same four weeks. Behind that rise sits mainly one figure: how little gas there is in European storage.

Dutch gas storage has been filled to 41.8 percent so far. Around this time last year it was 61.8 percent, and the level has never been this low in mid-August. On top of that, refilling keeps getting slower rather than faster. This is what that means for the price you pay this winter.

The gas price rose almost 40 percent in July and the power price moved with it. European gas storage is at its lowest level ever for this time of year, while the market swings back and forth between fear of escalation and hope of a deal around the Strait of Hormuz. This is what happened, and what it means for your procurement.

CHP Barometer 2026: more running hours, higher charges

BlueTerra's new CHP Barometer expects 3,300 full load hours for grid-supplying CHP in 2030. Last year that figure was still 2,700. So your gas engine will be needed for longer than expected, while the cost side is getting heavier.
